Use your smart phone to get your Girl Scout Cookies fix

Cookie lovers in Colorado can now use their smart phones to find the nearest Girl Scout cookie booths and a list of dates and times when those booths will be open. Girl Scouts of Colorado’s Cookie Sale is going mobile as part of a national pilot program with 19 other councils nationwide. The Girl Scout Cookie Mobile App can be downloaded free by simply calling **GSCookies (**472665437) from a mobile phone, searching for “Cookie Locator” in the iPhone App Store or Android Market Place or visiting littlebrownie.com/app to scan the QR code on your iPhone or Android. Girl Scouts of Colorado Booth Sales start Friday, Feb. 18, and run through March 13.

The application, which will be available for iPhones and Android devices, uses either GPS or manually entered ZIP codes, cities or states to find cookie booths near the customer. The app will conveniently map those locations and add the sale information to the calendar. Customers can also share information about cookie booths with friends on Facebook or Twitter or email and sign up for email alerts with news about area cookie booths. In addition to locating the booths, customers can learn about their favorite cookies, including nutritional value and ingredients. Cookie lovers can take a fun, interactive quiz to learn their “cookie personalities” and share it with friends via Facebook, Twitter or email. While an application is not available for the Blackberry and other web-enabled smart phones this year, customers can still locate and receive email alerts on nearby cookie booths using the mobile website at mobile.littlebrownie.com. For further information or questions, customers can go to littlebrownie.com/app.

“People often underestimate the number of Girl Scout Cookies they want to order and end up wishing they’d ordered more. Or they don’t know a Girl Scout who can help them,” said Dorothy Gregory, vice president of product sales for Girl Scouts of Colorado. “Customers will be able to download an app on their smart phone and find their favorite treats fast.”

“The Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches girls business and leadership skills. And this new method of reaching customers teaches them about the benefits of using relevant technology to achieve their goals,” Gregory continued. “Girl Scouts also learn to serve their communities, so the purchase of cookies supports girls and benefits our whole community in many direct and indirect ways.”

Colorado Girl Scouts selling eight varieties of cookies

The Wall Street Journal reported on Jan. 27 about a pilot program where Girl Scouts are selling only six varieties of Girl Scout Cookies. Girl Scouts of Colorado is not participating in this pilot program this year, and is still offering all eight varieties of Girl Scout Cookies. However, Girl Scouts of Colorado is anxiously waiting to see the results of this pilot program as we plan our future Girl Scout Cookie programs.
