The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation’s annual Stadium Stampede 5K Walk/Run event, held on Sunday, June 26th at INVESCO Field at Mile High, benefits charity medical care programs at Saint Joseph Hospital .
The Stadium Stampede™ features the Wells Fargo 5K run and SJHF Volunteer 5K walk, the Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital 1K Kids Fun Run, and the Huff & Puff 1K Senior Walk. The scenic 5K course begins on the south side of the INVESCO Field stadium, travels along the Platte Valley bike path and ends with a sprint through the stadium where participants can see themselves on the giant video screen. The 1K Kids Fun Run and the Huff ‘N Puff 1K Senior Challenge Walkers are also routed through the stadium. The 5K run and walk begin at 8:30 a.m.; the 1K Senior Challenge and Kids Fun Run begin at 9:10 a.m. Registration table opens at 7:30 a.m.
The event’s 5K premier race is open to participants at all levels and is known as one of the fastest 5K races in Colorado . The top three finishers in both the men’s and women’s categories receive cash prizes. Participants in the 5K run are eligible for age group prizes, which are given at the awards ceremony following the race. The USATF has invited the Stadium Stampede to be the 5K Championship Race and is participating in the USATF Grad Prix, which is a four race series. Elite runners will compete for a share of the $2,500 prize purse, while age-group athletes can win USATF medals. The race is the first of the four-race USATF Grand Prix with the Evergreen 10K, Boulder Heart & Sole half marathon, and the Lead King Loop 25K all to follow. Runners competing in three of the four races will be awarded a high-tech. quality USATF jacket. USATF awards are exclusive to USATF members.
The post-race party entertainment includes live music, bungee jumping, a climbing wall, clowns, face painting, caricatures, free food, beverages and Coors Beer. Post-race events also include a Health and Fitness Expo where participants can learn about, massage, body fat testing, sportswear, healthy food samples and more.
