Brighton Shares The Harvest is holding a community-wide food drive on Saturday, August 28 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at King Soopers, Safeway, and WalMart. All non-perishable food collected will be divided between our three local community food pantries: Calvary Chapel, His Hands Food Cupboard, and St. Augustine’s Community Food Pantry. These food pantries help over 650 local families each month with supplemental food assistance.
There are a number of ways that Brighton area residents and businesses can get involved. Your business or organization might wish to conduct a food drive among your employees or perhaps as an incentive campaign for your customers (for example, bring in 3 cans of food for a discount). If you would like help to set something like that up, contact Linda Young at lyoung_111@msn.com or at 303-655-1550.
We need volunteers to work at the grocery stores on August 28, to greet customers at the door, distribute information about our local food pantries, and to sort and transport food. If you are interested in helping during the food drive, please contact Linda. Volunteers must be 18 or older.
And we need shoppers to purchase and donate non-perishable foods to our volunteers on August 28. Items most in need include protein, such as canned meats, beans, and peanut butter, nutritious cereal, pasta and rice, spaghetti sauce, and canned fruits and vegetables. Please contact Linda Young with any questions or offers for assistance; lyoung_111@msn.com, 303-655-1550.
