Travel back in time at the Commerce City Historical Society’s third annual Pioneer Picnic Saturday, Sept. 25, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at City Park next to the Commerce City Recreation Center.
“It will be a time to share pictures, memorabilia, and stories or just listen to others talk about their lives in Commerce City,” said Debra Bullock, secretary/treasurer of the historical society, which is an organization dedicated to accurately collecting, memorializing, preserving, protecting and maintaining the rich physical and written history of the peoples and times of the city of Commerce City.
Last year, Bullock said, approximately 120 residents attended the picnic.
“This year, we are expecting even more people to attend,” she said.
The group will be having speakers talk about the different communities that make up Commerce City.
“We hope to have speakers talk about the Rose Hill, Central, Derby, Dupont, Irondale and Adams City areas,” Bullock said.
In addition, residents are asked to bring any antique they may have for a special “Do You Know What This Is?” game.
Copies of the group’s book, “Images of America – Commerce City” will also be for sale at the event, as well as membership coffee cups.
The Central Neighborhood Association will also be on hand to discuss their organization “We invite anyone who is interested in preserving Commerce City’s history to come join us,” Bullock said. “Come and learn about the history of your neighborhood and have lunch.”
In addition to the Pioneer Picnic on Sept. 25, where RSVPs are appreciated, but not necessary; the group will be holding their next regularly-scheduled meeting on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 6770 Monaco St.
